To Break Up or Not to Break Up

Although wedding cakes, Groomsman gifts, Hawaiian honeymoons, bubble baths and candlelight dinners are always my personal preferences, there always comes a time when everything needs to stop. Most experts say that people stay in love for a couple of years, then the real trialsbegin. Here are some of the ways to determineif you need to break up or not.

1. It’s harder to communicate. Communication will come to a standstillduring the later parts of an ending relationship. I assure you that it is normal for partners to go through quiet moments together. However, if times become more silent than usual, in the sense that you want to tell her or him something but just don’t know how to begin, that becomes a problem. Partners should relate and talkwith each other very well and easily.

Not talking to your partner as often as before can be a sign that you no longer perceive the person as someone you can rely on or someone who adequately understands your situation. If you’d rather talk to your friends or other family members than your partner, then you should contemplate if conversations just emptied out permanently.

2. Arguments are getting worse. If fightsare extending far longer than usual and you fight about the smallest things like Engravable cufflinks, then you better start thinking if the fights are really leading to better times or just limiting your ability to grow. Arguments are very healthy for relationships, but partners need to understand that the goal of fights is to become better for each other.

If the fights are becoming more personal and you tackleon past arguments or look for more mistakes just to get the better of the other, then these arguments are becoming unhealthy. You have to know and gauge how severe the fights gets and consider if you think you can get through these for several years to come.

3. More secrets. Partners should never lie, cheat or deceive each other. One of the main signs of a faltering relationship is that more and more secrets are being kept from each other. It is vital that partners stay open to one another, so that they can patch up problems and concerns quickly. If you never knew your partner to be smoking and you discoversome Engraved zippo lighters in the drawer, then you need to talk about it right away. If you yourself feel like keeping secrets from your partner or feel relieved or happy to do some things that you do not want him or her to find out, then you better start contemplating if it is really best to stay or just let go.

Good things may have been shared in the past, but you have to accept that some partshave changed and you no longer are right for each other. Bring up these points to your partner and try to find solutions. Perhaps he or she will also understand, trying to fix things or just admit that it is not working anymore.
